The brother of her named Tommy Reid is also in the entertainment industry and has his own production company while her father Patrick has a clothing store Patrick Reid located in Santa Monica California in which she works as a fashion consultant. Terri was the chapter leader at Children of God until 1978. McGowan lived a large portion of her youth in the community and regularly visited other countries in Europe with her family. McGowan began modeling as a child as a result of her father's job as an artist. She also appeared in Vogue Bambini, among other Italian magazines.
